Nebraska winter is a losing proposition. As one matures, those few months of frozen mornings and early evenings pace along like an icy interstate. Holiday hopes quickly fade into the dull gray of January. While most of Omaha, Nebraska retired to oversized bedding or their nearest barstool, singer-songwriter Matt Whipkey went to work.
Forgoing the often-sterile environment of modern digital recording, Whipkey opted for the ultimate honest format: 4-track cassette. Over a few frozen weeks in March 2009, Whipkey turned cabin fever into an all-analog recording studio. The nine songs comprising Instant Heart are his nest work to date. Personal, pure, honest, hiss, echo and heart.
